Explore our guidance below to find out how easily a retired hound will settle into your life.

Frequently asked questions

Based in Yorkshire and rehoming dogs across the UK, we are dedicated to finding the perfect match for every dog and family. Here are clear answers to the most common queries about welcoming a retired racer home.

Do greyhounds need huge amounts of exercise?

Contrary to popular belief, greyhounds are known as the world's fastest couch potatoes. Most retired greyhounds only require two 20 to 30-minute walks per day. They love a quick sprint in a secure field, but they spend the vast majority of their day sleeping peacefully on a comfy bed.

Do you rehome outside of Yorkshire?

Yes, while our rescue kennels are based in Yorkshire, we rehome retired greyhounds right across the United Kingdom. We conduct virtual or local home checks and support you through every stage of your adoption journey regardless of where you live in the UK.

Can retired greyhounds live with cats and small furries?

Some greyhounds have lower prey drives and can be safely cat-tested and homed with cats or small animals, while others cannot. We assess every hound individually so we can accurately match them to homes with existing pets.

Are greyhounds good with children?

Greyhounds are typically calm, gentle, and quiet companions who do very well in family environments. Each hound has their own distinct personality, so we always work carefully to pair families with dogs that suit their household dynamic.

Are retired racers already house-trained?

Because they have lived in racing kennels, they may need a few days of gentle guidance to understand home life. However, greyhounds are naturally very clean animals and tend to learn house training very quickly with a consistent routine and positive reinforcement.

Do greyhounds need coats during the colder months?

Yes. Greyhounds have very short fur, thin skin, and very little body fat. In chilly or wet weather, they require a warm, waterproof coat on walks to stay comfortable and healthy.

Can a greyhound be let off the lead in public?

Because greyhounds are sight hounds with powerful acceleration, we advise keeping them on a lead in open or unfenced public areas. For off-lead exercise, we recommend enclosed private dog fields where they can run safely without distractions.

What support do you provide after adoption?

We offer lifetime support for every hound we rehome. With over two decades of breed expertise, our team is always on hand via phone or email to offer advice on feeding, settling in, training, and healthcare.
